Laying back on the beach, you begin to think... this really is paradise... wait, better thought, why are you laying back on the beach? Haven't you more exciting things to do?
Living in Hawaii is definitely different than just visiting here. Surfing, skateboarding, partying... and even a unique lingo. The new year has just begun, and already the drama begins!
With the beginning of 2008, a new year's party has gone horribly wrong. A gang of skater kids had a party on the beach, in which they persuaded a young skateboarder to try surfing... in the middle of the night. The kid had never surfed in his life. Paddling out alone was a challenge. He quickly drowned, and no one had noticed until the next morning. Now all the skaters have a bad rep; even those who hadn't even attended the party.
As for the surfers, everyone seems to be one nowadays. This is all fine and dandy... except for the fact that everyone is dropping in on everyone else's waves. The locals are not only getting irritated at the huge amount of tourists, but also at each other. Fights have broken out over the silliest of things, and many surfers have either stopped surfing, or have found their own secret spots.
All the locals seemed to have found their own problems they have to deal with... but what about the tourists?
Not only getting the evil eye and rude behavior from the surfers, all Hawaiians seem to be picking on the tourists; not realizing that the tourists are basically what makes their economy strong. The behavior has gotten so bad recently, in fact, that the tourists are finding other places to visit. In short, Hawaii is becoming only locals again. This may sound fine, but many of the shops have begun to have to shut down; and more people are getting on each other's nerves.
However, some people aren't minding this at all. These people are the laid back ones, the ones who wouldn't even mind living on the beach (which some of them do). They are enjoying the fact that there seem to be no tourists left. The surfers and skaters are definitely benefiting from this, as well.
However, eventually the country has no tourists left whatsoever. Literally. So now they are wondering where they all went. Little do they know that flight lines have stopped sending people over due to the nearly non-existent amount of sales. The only contact Hawaii seems to be making to the United States is through boat, but even then, they're not supplying tourists. So what's Hawaii to do now that they've got what they thought they wished for?
